$4,000

VOLKSWAGEN 1971 T2 BUS CAMPER Restoration Project $4000 or best offer over $3500
I purchased this bus in February 2001. At that time it was configured as a Transporter with updated front bucket seats with armrests and the center seat, both from a 1985 VW bus. Nice touch and still utilizes those changes. It has been reported to me that this was a very iconic bus in the Berleley area in the 70s and 80s. My daughters next door neighbor, then a resident of Oakland, often saw the bus, newly painted in it's present look quite often at that time.
From a damaged 1971 Westfalia, I added all the Westfalia furniture from the back edge of the sliding door back to rear of bus. I removed the center seat and added rails so that center seat could face either forward or rearward. The center seat can also be completely removed to be used as additional seating, for two, at a campground. The original seatbelts are attached to the center seat, all of which are in good condition. There is storage space in the cabinet on the left as you enter thru the sliding door, also, under the rear seat accessed thru the hatch or by lifting the seat which converts to the original Westfalia bed. There is an additional westfalia cabinet on the right as you access thru the rear hatch door.
I drove and often camped in this bus until December 2005 and have had it parked here since, where I presently live. To date, I have continued to register and insure it.
The rental house that I was living in was being sold so I moved to an apartment where the bus has been parked since. I have not been allowed to work on the bus here, and am now planning another move, this time to Kernville(lake Isabella). I have two other vehicles to move there, so, I have, unhappily, opted not to move the Bus.
Though I drove this bus in here, it must be trailered or towed from the parking area of this location. No work is allowed on vehicles in this parking lot.
The engine, clutch, and brakes were fine, but the vehicle had been in need of repairs to the transaxle nose cone(new bushing) and replacement of the steering box(worked, but had a glitch). The transmission worked fine, but the shifter was very wobbly(nose cone seal) and would jump out of the shifter arm socket. one driver side IRS joint(CV) was growly. There were a few other things that needed attention also. The battery has since expired and was disposed of.
I have both new and good salvaged parts for replacement of issues mentioned which will be included in this sale.
1. (4) new CV joints for both rear axles
2. new bushing and seal for transaxle nose cone
3. good salvaged steering box.
