Samovars (sometimes also spelled Samavar or Samaavar) are used to boil water for tea and are a staple in most Persian homes. Just like in Russian, Tea is a popular drink in Iran. Pretty much everyone begins their day with a cup of tea, drinks some more after each meal as well as some between meals.
This samovar was more than likely made in the early to mid 20th century in an Iranian village. It was imported into the USA during the fairly common importer/wholesaler "sweeps" that were popular during 1960s through mid-1980s. (After that, the cost became prohibitive.)
